Department of Cardiovascular Surgery
The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery has been developed for 60 years and is a pioneer in cardiovascular surgery in Sichuan and Chongqing. As early as 1963, Wang Anding, Zhang Hongmou, and other experts from the older generation took the lead in performing open heart surgery with extracorporeal circulation. They pioneered the clinical adoption of self-made biological valves in Chongqing at the end of the 1970s. Additionally, they led in radical resection of complex congenital heart diseases in southwest China in the 1980s. In the 1990s, He Depei and other experts achieved a breakthrough in heart surgery for infants under 2 years in Chongqing by overcoming scientific and technological difficulties. Since the beginning of the 21st century, under the guidance of Discipline Leader, Yang Qingjun, the team has taken the lead in non-stop coronary artery bypass and full thoracoscopic heart surgery in Chongqing. Moreover, it was the first among others to carry out one-stop hybrid heart surgery and other difficult surgeries in southwest China. The department has been recognized as one of the pioneering Key Medical Disciplines in Chongqing, Chongqing Institute of Cardiopulmonary and Vascular Diseases, and Chongqing Clinical Medicine Research Center of Cardiovascular Surgery. It has been supported by the National Project for Improving Physician's Capacity for Diagnosis and Treatment of Intractable Cardiovascular Diseases.
